Glocalization as organizations

Nothing is global, everything is local. But the reason we perceive the society of the world as emerging; i.e. as harmonized, homogenesized and similar; is because the traveling and diffusion of ideas which are adopted locally. On a seminar at CASL (www.hhs.se/casl) on December 6, Professor Czarniawska talks about how professional organizations transport faster in the global than professional norms. An example: as soon as a new IT hub was started in San Francisco (e.g. YouTube.com), the organization’s borders transcends over borders for countries, cultures, and organizational norms much faster than the local norms which gives the organization a meaning.

Transcendence of organizations in the global community will have implications for management and leadership. Instead of bringing management closer to the working staff, it will be control at distance. Hence, we will see an increased separation between management as symbolic artifact and actual leadership on the floor. At least according to Barbara Czarniawska during winter 2006.
